New Year's Honour for Kate Gerrish

JCN is delighted to report that Kate Gerrish, Professor of Nursing at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is among the nurses recognised in the New Year’s Honours list, with her services to nursing being rewarded with a CBE.

As well as being a specialist practitioner in district nursing, over the years Kate has undertaken research into community nursing, integrated nursing teams and evidence-based practice in community nursing. She is also a valued member of JCN’s editorial board.

CBEs - or Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, to give the award its full title — are awarded for distinguished and innovative contribution in a particular field.

Speaking to JCN, Kate said that she was delighted with the award, commenting that, ‘I am thrilled and feel very honoured that my contribution to nursing has been recognised in this way.  Although, it’s a personal award it’s very much a reflection of the collective contribution of the nursing colleagues I have worked with over the years.’
